While Mozart is widely regarded as the lyric pinnacle of Classical style, he was strongly influenced by those who came before him. When in London on tour as a child prodigy a young Wolfgang befriended J.C. Bach, youngest son of J.S. Bach. Haydn also became a paternal mentor to Mozart and they often played chamber music and attended concerts together. From Bach, Mozart borrowed a brilliant texture and from Haydn a wide vocabulary of emotive expression.

Hear Mozart's musical evolution in this program that features two talented Philharmonia Baroque wind players - Marc Schachman and Danny Bond - as soloists for J.C. Bach's Sinfonia Concertante for Oboe and Bassoon. Bach's and Haydn's symphonies draw a direct line to Mozart's early twenty-ninth symphony, showing his music evolving from the strong influence of his mentors.
