Redwood Symphony's popular spook-tainment returns with Robert Rodriguez's "A Colorful Symphony," narrated by Valerie Sarfaty and given spectacular lighting effects by Matthew Bain. Based on a chapter of the same name from Norton Juster's great children's book, The Phantom Tollbooth, the story takes up where Milo comes across an immense orchestra in the middle of the forest, conducted by Chroma, whose job it is to conduct the colors of the morning, noon and night. But find out what happens when Milo suddenly finds himself holding Chroma's baton, with an out-of-control orchestra and a world spinning with crazy colors!
The concert, conducted by Eric Kujawsky and Assistant Conductor Kristin Link, will also include excerpts from Beethoven's Seventh Symphony, and more. The orchestra will be in costume, and the audience is invited to come likewise! Ten lucky raffle winners will be videoed and photographed conducting the orchestra in a Sousa march.
The program will begin at 3:00 with a Tour of the Orchestra, in which members will do demos and answer questions about playing, practicing and having a very cool hobby!
FYI, while we are charging admission for children ($10) this concert, our five subscription concerts are FREE for children 17 and under. There is no other local arts group doing this!
