The UALR Music Department will present pianist Peter Collins in a solo recital at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13, 2005, featuring works by Schumann, Faure, and Ravel as well as the contemporary piano work China Gates by John Adams.

Collins, a native of New Orleans and currently a professor of piano at Missouri State University, has won awards in several national and international piano competitions. His awards include first prize in the 1984 Washington International Piano Competition and second place in the 1984 American Chopin Competition. He was awarded the Maurice Hinson Prize for his performance of the commissioned work by John Cage at the 1985 University of Maryland International Competition.
Active internationally as a chamber musician and soloist, Collins founded and coordinates the Missouri Chamber Players and has toured Europe four times with the group in performances of 20th Century merican chamber music. He performed a solo recital at the Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw and has appeared as concerto soloist with the orchestra of Jelenia Góra, Poland, as part of a cultural exchange program between Missouri State and the Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw. Collins also recently served as a faculty member at the Bösendorfer International Piano Academy in Vienna.
