With his boyish good looks, velvety voice and impeccable phrasing, New Yorker Peter Cincotti is the kind of perfectly calibrated, swoon-inducing artist that can satisfy jazz purists while appealing to a broader base. If anyone has a chance to duplicate the Norah Jones phenomenon, it?s this dapper crooner.
The Venue:
Located in the Time Warner Center that towers over the southwest corner of Central Park, the main 1,200-seat Rose Theater is designed for jazz but will also be used for opera, ballet, theater and orchestra performances. The most spectacular of the venues is the Allen Room, a 500-seat auditorium with dramatic views through a 50-foot-by-90-foot (15-meter by 27-meter) glass wall overlooking Central Park and the shimmering lights of the city.
The Man:
Whether he?s delicately massaging a lyric or tinkling the ivories, Cincotti?s got a undeniable charisma and talent. His self-titled debut topped the jazz charts and established him as an artist to watch, and expectations are even higher for ?On the Moon,? which entered the charts at #2.
The Songs:
Cincotti has always shown an incredible maturity for someone who hit the scene at age 18. This not only allows him to take on old chestnuts like ?St. Louis Blues? while sounding both fresh and grown-up; it also makes the originals ?I?d Rather Be With You? and the title track avoid the schlock of pop.
Delicate Balance:
While he?s done some work on this new album to distance himself from straight-ahead crooning, Cincotti is still closer to Harry Connick, Jr. or the younger Frank Sinatra than to early rockers like Bobby Darin (in whose upcoming biopic he appears).
