Giant Step's biweekly DJ series at Hudson Hotel welcomes back hip hop legend Pete Rock on Monday, April 20.
Classic New York producer/DJ Pete Rock aka Soul Brother #1 revolutionized rap and is one of the greatest hip hop producers of all time. He is often mentioned alongside DJ Premier, RZA and J Dilla because of his impeccable recording career, collaborating with Nas, Common, Mary J. Blige, Ghostface Killa, Busta Rhymes, Public Enemy and Run-DMC.
In the early '90s, Pete rose to prominence as one half of the critically acclaimed group Pete Rock & CL Smooth, merging elements from jazz into hip hop, alongside artists like Stetsasonic, A Tribe Called Quest, The Roots and Gang Starr.
As New York City's premier Monday night event for the last two years, the Hudson has consistently seen a curated roster of DJ legends and pioneering artists as wide-ranging as Louie Vega, Afrika Bambaataa, Jazzanova, Bobbito and Danny Krivit, playing styles from soulful house, Latin, hip hop, jazz, funk and more. Mark your calendars now for quality music and dancing at Hudson to come.
