Hold a Healthy Parks Party in your Local Park to Support a Pesticide-free Calgary Bylaw!

Need an excuse for a party in your neighbourhood? Are there people that live near you that you hardly ever see? Is spring starting to make you hyper?

Take this opportunity to get together in the sunshine with friends and neighbours on Sunday June 10 and celebrate Calgary's movement towards being healthy and pesticide-free! It doesn't take much for people to want to have a picnic and bask in the glory of the outdoors.

Some easy and super fun activities include: an ultimate frisbee game; street hockey tournament; costume procession; stilt-walking tutorials; food booth; dunk tank; inflatable jumper; playing music courtesy of the local dj, a request list, or neighbourhood musicians - invite people to bring their own drums and instruments; community groups and businesses; lantern making session; people who make arts and crafts can come sell items; speeches from the community association and aldermanic offices; kids soccer, have a kids talent show of songs, drumming, and theatre, or the spontaneous fun that happens when kids get together.

To celebrate phasing out pesticides in Calgary you can distribute pesticide-free yard signs and swap notes on how to make your yard more beautiful. Compare notes on keeping dandelions under control, maybe by swapping dandelion recipes. You can strategize on how to make more of the green spaces in your 'hood chemical-free.

It may feel like work but it can be as simple as putting up some posters and emailing friends. We'll send you the supplies and share ideas so that when it's done, you'll be honoured as the pillar of the community that you are!
