Peruvian Education Project Mixer at Union Lounge
Support a child in need at the Peruvian Education Project (PEP) Mixer at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 6, 2009 at Union Lounge, 2708 Bagby, Houston, TX 77006.
This mixer is open to the public. PEP bracelets will be on sale for $5. Drink tickets will cost $10, and Celebration for Life shirts will be on sale for $15. All proceeds from the mixer will benefit Peruvian students’ education and will help the students achieve their greatest potential.
The Project was founded by the late Dr. Gustavo Wensjoe, who was also the University of St. Thomas Center for International Studies director. He wanted to provide his fellow native Peruvians an opportunity to improve their situations and help contribute to the advancement of Peruvian society. His legacy of service lives on in his students and the many others involved with PEP.
The mission of the Project is to provide assistance to Peruvian students of promising academic ability to enable them to obtain a secondary education. PEP chooses a select number of students, who demonstrate academic promise, for a scholarship that allows them to attend high school in the Huaycán district in Lima. The donations that PEP receives pay for the students’ school fees, uniforms, field trips, tuition, books and supplies as well as two meals a day, five days a week.
