Known as "The Cultural Ambassadors of Black Peru," this remarkable 30-member, music and dance ensemble utilizes wooden crates, tithing boxes, and even donkey jaws-paired with melodic guitar and passionate singing-to create a truly unique Afro-Peruvian sound. While to many, Peruvian music means Andean panpipes, the country's African legacy is slowly gaining notoriety, and Grammy Award-nominated PerĂº Negro has become a proud institution of Peruvian culture. Celebrating its 35 th anniversary, the troupe brings its gloriously colorful costumes, ebullient dances, and fascinating stories to Atlanta-and the Rialto stage-for the first time.
