The seminal event in American history blazes to vivid life in this most unconventional of Broadway hits. It's the summer of 1776, and the nation is ready to declare independence... if only our founding fathers can agree to do it! 1776 follows John Adams of Massachusetts, Benjamin Franklin of Pennsylvania, and Richard Henry Lee and Thomas Jefferson of Virginia as they attempt to convince the members of the second Continental Congress to vote for independence from the shackles of the British monarchy by signing the Declaration of Independence.
The representatives are played by Andrew Bates, Andy Anderson, Craig Ross, Curtis Robbins, Dan Bray, Dan Pagliasotti, Drew Lagerborg, Eric Fry, Gary Crow-Willard, Jim Landis, Marc Graham, Matt Maxwell, Michael Bowerman, Mike Kienker, Owen Niland, Rick Williams, Shaun McClellan, TJ Hogle, Travis Risner and Wes Munsil. Additional cast includes Alex Pierce, Alisa Schmidt, Boni McIntyre, Claude Diener, Christian Mast and Paul Jaquith.
Featuring songs that include "Sit Down, John," "Til Then," "But, Mr. Adams," and "Molasses to Rum,"Stone believes that the songs create a playful, irreverent tone that helps bring the historical characters to life.
