New York-based artist Anya Liftig has been receiving much attention since graduating from Georgia State University in 2004, performing officially sanctioned works at galleries and museums including Eyedrum, Exit Art, and Tate Modern. In March 2010, she created quite a stir with a guerrilla intervention at Marina Abramović’s The Artist is Present exhibition at MoMA in New York.
Liftig’s performances for live audiences or the video camera feature the artist as solitary figure, acting out provocative gestures of extreme stillness or psychologically charged movement. She will present excerpts from recent works and discuss her ideas and influences with Stuart Horodner. For more about her performance The Anxiety of Influence, visit Bombsite, and the artist’s own website.
