In view of everything else that's happening in America and in the world, why might PPG members want to learn about Northern Ireland?
Well, that tiny country is a laboratory for socioeconomic problems and activist solutions. You have historical factions, religion, poverty, injustice, bombings, and the outside influence of an imperial power. (A bit like Iraq with no oil). On the other hand, you have intelligent, creative people on both sides of the issue who are trying to resolve things peacefully.
How are today's Catholics and Protestants getting along in Northern Ireland? Why are the British there? The story is told through huge murals painted on buildings. Bill McGrath will convey some impressions on this topic, based partly on a visit he & Janet made to Belfast last fall. Join us: 313 1/2 Division (above Jenkin's Jewelry), 7 p.m. Thursday, April 28.
