Award-winning writer Alan Bennett is reunited with director Nicholas Hytner and Olivier Award-winning actress Frances de la Tour in this new play full of provocative fun screening at Riverside Theatres on April 20 and April 21 2013.
Frances de la Tour plays Dorothy, the owner of a South Yorkshire country house who is facing the dilemma of what to do with her estate. Shrinking from the idea of it being open to the public gaze, she is tempted by an offer from a valuer working on behalf of a shadowy consortium. Meanwhile, her sister June is close to doing a deal with the National Trust, which will make the house a piece of English history.
But then a third possibility arises when a film company turns up to use the site as a location for a porn movie.
Alan Bennett is one of Britain’s most celebrated playwrights, and the much anticipated People is the sixth of his plays to have its premiere at the National Theatre.
Filmed live from London’s National Theatre stage, what unfolds in People is absurd and downright hilarious.
