Pedals & Pumps: Barbara Dennerlein July 10, 2008

Germany’s most famous Jazz recording artist and concert organist, Barbara Dennerlein comes stateside to perform at Trinity Wall Street’s 3rd Annual Organ Festival: Pedals and Pumps: A Festival of Organ Divas on Thursday, July 10th, 2008 at 1:00 PM. Improvising her own works using both classical and modern jazz idioms, Ms. Dennerlein will feature theatrical registers programmed by Cameron Carpenter on the The Marshall and Ogletree virtual pipe organ.

The Marshall and Ogletree virtual pipe organ replaced the Aeolian-Skinner pipe organ damaged by corrosive dust and debris following the collapse of the World Trade Center buildings. Installed in 2003, the new instrument is actually two 85-stop organs comprising two consoles, a 2,000 pound tone generation system, two audio systems, and proprietary software operating on the Linux platform. In 2007, the Trinity vestry affirmed it as the permanent instrument of Trinity Church.
The concerts, which are open to the public at no charge, feature the organ console in full view of the audience. In addition, large, flat screen monitors are positioned so that the performers’ hands and feet can be seen close up. This year’s program highlights contemporary female musicianship and features performances by Italy’s Federica Iannella and Giuliana Maccaron (July 3rd),Germany’s Barbara Dennerlein (July 10), England’s Jane Watts (July 17), America’s Joyce Jones (July 24), Russia’s Ludmila Golub (July 31), and Korea’s Ahreum Han (August 7).
