The Social Change Project at the Mercatus Center at George Mason University presents a lecture by Timothy Fort, Lindner-Gambal Professor of Business Ethics and Executive Director of the Institute for Corporate Responsibility at the George Washington University. Professor Fort will discuss "Peace Through Commerce," a research program that investigates the contribution that commerce, trade, and economic development make toward building sustainable peace.
Timothy Fort is the Lindner-Gambal Professor of Business Ethics and the Executive Director of the Institute for Corporate Responsibility at the George Washington University. He is also a coordinator for the Peace Through Commerce Initiative and Adjunct Professor at the George Washington School of Law. He holds the title of Faculty Fellow at the Business Roundtable Ethics Institute and the William Davidson Institute.
His research interests include how ethical business behavior can contribute to the reduction of violence in the world, optimal organizational structures to foster affective ethical sentiments in business, the role of religion in business ethics and issues in the commercialization of science and technology.
In addition to several journal articles and book chapters, Professor Fort is the author of Ethics and Governance: Business as Mediating Institution (Oxford University Press, 2001), The Role of Business in Fostering Peaceful Societies (Cambridge University Press, 2004), Business, Integrity, & Peace: Beyond Geopolitical and Disciplinary Boundaries (Cambridge University Press, 2007), and Prophets, Profits, and Peaces: How Business Can Become Instruments of Peace and Foster Religious Harmony (Yale University Press, forthcoming).
