On June 4, 5 and 6 Bay Choral Guild presents "Peace and Love", two works for chorus and four-hand piano. An exciting new addition to the choral repertoire, "The Fabric of Peace" was composed by Sanford Dole, BCG Artistic Director, as a commission by the Oakland Symphony Chorus for their 50th Anniversary Gala. Set to texts from multiple sources - the "Rig Veda", "Song of the Spirit" by Bay Area poet Elizabeth Eliassen and writings of composer William Byrd - this dramatic, richly varied cantata gloriously celebrates the joy of making music.
The other work on the program needs no introduction - Johannes Brahms' melodic, colorful "Liebeslieder Waltzes" are loved by audiences and singers, and are a complete joy to perform! They are a lovely counterpoint to "The Fabric of Peace", and an exciting finale to BCG's 31st Concert Season. BCG is magnificently accompanied by two wonderful pianists: T. Paul Rosas, senior organist and staff accompanist for Los Altos United Methodist Church, and Sarah Wannamaker, organist and accompanist for the First United Methodist Church, Palo Alto.
