(Oakland, CA) Peace activists come together to celebrate peace at the historical Grand Lake Theater. The celebration is in coordination with the national Declaration of Peace Campaign.
The Declaration of Peace is a campaign, which calls to bring the troops home from Iraq, establish a comprehensive plan to end the war in Iraq and oppose future US military invasions. The campaign request that the 180 peace and social justice group members coordinate rallies, marches, and congressional visits between September 21st through the 28th.
Country Joe, came about as part political device, part necessity, and part entertainment. In the Fall of 1965, the remnants of the FSM (Free Speech Movement) on the Berkeley Campus were organizing a series of demonstrations against the war in Vietnam at the Oakland Induction Center. http://www.countryjoe.com
Rojan, a Kurdish artist performs traditional Kurdish music. She has performed here and abroad, next performance will be in SF http://www.rojan.us
Ashkan Ghafouri, a musician from Iran, founder of NeyDavood Ensemble, Tar School and a non profit organization: School of Culture, Art, Literature and Entertainment (SCALE) where he performs, teaches, and promotes Traditional Persian and Folk music of the area. http://www.tarschool.com
Sureya Sayadi, an Iraqi Kurdish refugee living in California. A Kurdish Peace and Human Rights Activist. She was a member of the CODEPINK Iraqi Womens Delegation that toured the country in early 2006. http://www.womensaynotowar.org
Paul Cox, served in Vietnam from 1969-1970 as a USMC grunt. He is a member of Veterans for Peace, Chapter 69 San Francisco. http://www.veteransforpeace.org
