Born in Belo Horizonte, Paulinho Garcia composed, arranged, produced, and performed in Brazil until his arrival in the U.S. in 1979. In 1991 he founded his own band, Jazzmineiro, whose eponymous 1996 CD received excellent reviews in the Chicago Tribune, Jazziz magazine, and the Brazilian Music Review. Apart from being the recipient of the "Best jazz entertainer" award for the year 2001 by the Chicago Music Awards, he tours the world extensively and has worked with some of Chicago's best musicians including saxophonist Greg Fishman, singer Grazyna Auguscik, flutist Julie Koidin, and Judy Roberts just to name a few.
