Simon was born in 1941 and grew up in the New York City area. He grew up idolizing the Everly Brothers, and in high school he formed a friendship with Art Garfunkel, who shared his admiration for the band. Although Simon began performing and recording songs while attending Queens College, his initial success came in tandem with Garfunkel, as the two topped the charts with dozens of songs in the 1960's. Simon and Garfunkel split in 1970, and while Garfunkel drifted into relative anonymity, Simon flourished. He has released 14 solo albums and sold millions of copies worldwide.
