Paul Pitsker’s watercolors are realized with such precision that at first it is easy to overlook the subject matter - the small creatures of the world. Insects, moths or tiny birds, that find themselves interacting with the shiny, man-made environment. Their fragile beauty is illuminated all the more by contrast with their alien, and dangerous, surroundings.
Using organic materials and antique photographs, Ashley McLean Emenegger assembles “borrowed memories”. Fragments that when brought together suggest narratives just beyond our recall. Set tenderly into found boxes, the pieces coalesce to form vignettes filled with a sense of loss and longing.
