Dr. Richard Robson Brettell, the Margaret McDermott Distinguished
Chair of Art and Aesthetics at the University of Texas at Dallas, will
speak on the topic “Revisiting Sisley, The English Impressionist.”
Brettell, one of the leading Impressionist scholars, says that it is
time to re-evaluate Sisley and to consider that he was indeed open to
new methods and did develop an alternative style that can be seen in
his work from the 1870s and early 1880s, which reveals a more graphic
energy.
