Enjoy a day of fun-filled activities as you discover the vibrant culture India has to offer at the Patterns of Trade Weekend Festival on 31 March and 1 April 2012 (Saturday and Sunday), organized by the Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM). In conjunction with the special exhibition, Patterns of Trade: Indian Textiles for Export, 1400-1900, the festival will showcase a range of free activities with something for everyone. Dress up as an Indian royal and get your hands tattooed by Henna artists, or design your own art cards with coloured rice or sand, a folk art known as rangoli. Children will also get to decorate their own bandannas using traditional block-printing, or stencil and fly their own kites, with help from The Singapore Kite Association. Visitors can also expect live performances featuring folk dances and traditional Indian music, or choose to check out award-winning Indian magician Kyle Ravin as he tells tales from Indian folklore through his magic tricks. Thrillseekers can head to the Patterns of Trade exhibition and snap a picture together with Akbar the Snake Master and his live golden snake- at your own risk!

Admission to all galleries will be free from 9am to 7pm, while all special activities will run from 1pm-6pm.

The Patterns of Trade: Indian Textiles for Export, 1400-1900 exhibition runs till 17 June 2012. ACM’s other on-going exhibition, The Tang Shipwreck: Gold and Ceramics from 9th-century China also features trade and artistic interactions from the region and will run till 24 June 2012.
