"Passing the Barre" - The business of Dance by Jamal Story July 9, 2009

Each workshop includes an introduction and lecture addressing basic information that will prepare dancers for life in professional dance.& nbsp; In the first 90 minutes, we will conduct an entire audition complete with cuts and keeps. During the audition, we will divulge perceptions, weaknesses and strengths of participants. Over the hour following, we will engage students in more thorough discussion about dos and don'ts, as well as subjects like health insurance, union membership, independent contractor status. The conversation will culminate in an open-ended question/answer session where students will gain not only insight about their concerns, but also a healthy selection of anecdotes and personal stories we've either experienced or collected from our colleagues.
