Group Plans Passenger Rail Expansion

Passenger rail expansion from Kansas City to Oklahoma City is the agenda of a public meeting on Saturday, December 8th from 10:30-noon at Union Station. The Northern Flyer Alliance will host this gathering and discussion in the Jarvis Hunt room with presentations by officials representing regional rail advocacy coalitions whose efforts are supported by the Alliance. All are welcome to attend, listen and learn about this initiative for passenger rail expansion.

The U.S. Senate recently passed a major Amtrak reauthorization that provides major funding increases for Amtrak and provisions for intercity passenger service compacts between States. Kansas and Oklahoma are in perfect alignment for dedicated funding of up to 80% of the cost of development.

Supporters seek to take the first deliberate steps back along a long road to develop intercity passenger trains along a rail corridor stretching from Kansas City through Lawrence Topeka, Newton and Wichita; and south to Oklahoma City and Dallas Worth.
