Faith and Finery–Music of the Subcontinent

Enjoy an exceptional cultural evening, filled with music, art, and poetry at the de Young Museum this Friday night from 5–8:45 pm. Riffat Sultana, the first female vocalist in a 500-year lineage of Pakistani musicians, will perform her unique combination of traditional and contemporary Sufi music and modern material in Wilsey Court from 6:30–8:30 pm. To complement the special exhibition, Vivienne Westwood: 36 Years in Fashion, “Puppet Meat Market” will stage a puppet fashion show, and students from the Academy of Art College will display their designs. The exhibition stays open until 8:45 pm with a reduced admission price of $10 for non-members (free for members). The de Young Poetry Series also continues this week with a reading and book signing by Canadian poet, Anne Carson.

Tickets for Vivienne Westwood: 36 Years in Fashion are $10 for visitors and free for members. Tickets for the Poetry Series are $8/members, $12/non-members, including museum admission following the reading.
