This course discusses development trends and covers multiple development approaches in managing sustainable and people-centered development programs and projects. It addresses the challenges of facilitating participatory development within development organizations and their partner
communities. Participants are introduced to real-life experiences in development. The course is built around IIRR’s experiences in people-centered development approaches and those of its partners. It also draws from the experiences of other organizations that have continuously learned from their field applications of participatory processes. A field study, where participants use participatory tools and methods, is the highlight of the course.
The course fee includes tuition fees, full board and accommodation on a twin-sharing arrangement (single
room accommodation can be requested for an additional fee of US$10 per day of stay), course-related local
travel, materials, field and agency visits, airport transfers, a week-end excursion and accident insurance.
It does not include international airfare, laundry and incidental expenses (a minimum pocket allowance of
US$100 per week is suggested for incidental and personal expenses).
