As the hot summer days arrive in Baltimore City, the Parks & People Foundation is offering a hands-on workshop to combat the effects of the heat on yards and gardens. On Wednesday, July 11, participants will have the chance to learn the most effective ways to save water while adding an interesting and useful element to their property at a Rain Barrel Workshop held at the Parks & People office.
A rain barrel prevents water from running directly into the storm drain, instead collecting and storing rainwater to be used later to water a lawn or garden. Using a rain barrel is a first step towards improving water quality throughout the city and saving money.
At the workshop, Parks & People staff will provide instruction and assistance with the construction and installation of a rain barrel. Admission is $50 and includes the barrel and all necessary materials.
