Global Citizenship: Thinking Beyond Borders
This year the Dr. Irma Parhad Programmes annual conference will be an exciting and interactive three-day event. Exploring elements of responsible global citizenship, the conference will be guided by the principles and vision for the Calgary Centre for Global Community (CCGC), another exciting community project initiated by the Parhad Programmes.

Keynote Speakers:
We are pleased to welcome Paul Loeb, author of "Soul of a Citizen: Living With Conviction in a Cynical Time" and editor of "The Impossible will Take a Little While: A Citizen's Guide to Hope in a Time of Fear". Mr. Loeb will give our opening keynote address on Thursday evening which will be followed up by a discussion session on citizen engagement Friday morning.
Frances Moore Lappé, Director of the Small Planet Institute and author of "Diet for a Small Planet" and most recently "Getting A Grip: Clarity, Creativity and Courage in a World Gone Mad" will give a second keynote address on Saturday morning and will host a workshop immediately following.
Workshops:
Our series of interactive workshops will include topics such as conflict transformation and peace building, domestic and international Human Rights law and ethical issues surrounding global citizenship. We are fortunate to count on the participation of the Sheldon Chumir Foundation for Ethics in Leadership, Lawyers Against the War, the Ghost River Rediscovery Project, in addition to a number of individuals whose work has been dedicated to the causes of social justice, conflict resolution and effective citizenship. The conference will also feature an interactive discussion around the vision and proposal for the CCGC, as well as presentations by our 2007 Parhad Summer Students and Correspondents.
