Let's forget about education budget cuts, "No Child Left Behind" school evaluations, and the quality of school teachers for one evening and focus on the things parents can do to help their children succeed in school. School readiness begins at birth, so this session will focus on activities for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, as well as school-age children.
We will discuss behaviors, activities, and attitudes that are applicable at various ages and that have been shown experimentally and anecdotally to contribute to improved school performance. Attendees will be given practical ideas that they can use to develop themselves as parents and teachers.
This session will be led by Charles Bernstein, Ph.D., the founder of the HeadsUp! approach to learning and the president of Early Learning Institute. Dr. Bernstein has conducted parenting classes and spoken on parenting issues for over 25 years at hospitals, colleges, schools, child care centers, workplaces, and professional conferences. He is married and the father of two boys, 19 and 15.
