You are invited to attend Cinemagic's weekly independent film
screening event. The event will take place on Wednesday, June 13th,
at the Cinemagic Courtyard in Bait Lothan, Salmiya, and will run
between 7:30 – 9:30 p.m.
This week, we will be screening "Paradise Now", a 2005 Academy Award
Nominated Film directed by renowned Palestinian Director Hany Abu-Assad.
Best friends Saïd (Kais Nashef) and Khaled (Ali Suliman) work as auto
mechanics in Nablus, in the disputed terrority of the West Bank.
Their lives involve little more than arguing with irate customers,
smoking the hookah, listening to music and flirting with Suha (Lubna
Azabal), an attractive regular -- until Saïd is approached by Jamal
(Amer Hlehel), an old friend to both men and their families. It is
time for Saïd and Khaled to fulfill a pact they made long ago: The
two men have been recruited to carry out a suicide bombing mission in
Tel Aviv. But can Saïd hold fast to his convictions while growing
closer to Suha, who was educated in Europe and holds more moderate
views than he does? Filmed on location in Nablus, Nazareth and Tel
Aviv, 'Paradise Now' chronicles the final days in the life of a
suicide bomber, examining unflinchingly the question of what might
drive someone to commit such a drastic and horrible act.
For its part, Cinemagic Kuwait, is organizing these events as part of
its efforts to contribute to the development of an internationally
competitive Kuwaiti audio-visual production industry, partly by
bringing the filmmakers and audiences together and by Increasing the
public's interest in – and appreciation for – the art of filmmaking.
As always, attendance is free of charge and you are encouraged to
invite guests. Seating is limited, so make sure you come a little
early. Snacks and refreshments will be served. Also, we will be
providing mist fans because of the weather.
