After the stunning abdication of Pope Benedict XVI, this course takes a close look at the Papal electoral system, the Conclave and changes over the last two hundred years, and at key turning points in the development of the Modern Papacy. Topics include the 'Enlightenment', the modern crises of atheism, nationalism, Fascism, Communism and secularisation.
