Basstown Presents, a new enterprise dedicated to bringing top-shelf dance minds to Boston, presents their third foray into nighttime activities -- Pantha Du Prince live. Pantha (aka Hendrik Weber) is on a tour of the US which will take him to epicenters like New York City and Detroit (for the premiere U.S. techno festival) before he premieres his live set in Canada at the well-respected Mutek festival.
Between then, he drops into Lansdowne Street at the intimate but ear-bendingly equipped Rocket Bar (formerly The Modern). With a state-of-the-art soundsystem and newly-remodeled look, the venue is a perfect fit for our world-class guest.
Joing him is Detroit's own Todd Gys in a rare DJ set. Todd is an electronic musician based in Boston, but opening for the mysterious and exquisite Pantha Du Prince was one thing he could not resist. On opening duties is techno DJ firebrand DJ Die Young, who's Slumber Party night in Cambridge (with Boston Phoenix audience winner DJ Baldur) is exquisite in it's own way.
Weber's music, filled with bombing bass and crystalline melodies, is a dream on the dancefloor. Weber will play live, meaning the music is not on record, but rather recreated for you in the nightclub. Basstown is committed to bringing only the most expert and classy club music to you. It doesn't get more classier than this.
ResidentAdvisor.net calls his music “Detroit and minimal vs. My Bloody Valentine and psychedelia”. NYC record store Other Music says his latest release ("This Bliss") is “full of beauty”. UK music site Boomkat calls it “Totally cosmic," and expert US site Stylus gives This Bliss an A-.
