Symon Petliura (1879-1926) was a Ukrainian publicist, writer, journalist, politician and statesman, who led Ukraine's fight for an independent Ukrainian nation following the Russian Revolution of 1917. We will honor his lifetime dedication to the Ukrainian people, and remember his untimely death by assassination, through prayer for his eternal life with a special liturgical observance (“panahyda”) immediately following the Divine Liturgy.
