Palekh: Icons to Souvenir Boxes to Icons September 24, 2009

'Palekh: Icons to Souvenir Boxes to Icons' is a major exhibition of works steeped in the rich cultural tradition of the Russian village of Palekh, one of the great icon centers of the 18th and 19th centuries. The show displays traditional icons as well as the folk handicraft of decorated papier-mache black lacquer boxes.
