Help support Palama Settlement’s Pop Warner Scorpions Football Team as they raise funds to support the Pakolea Athletics Program. The Scorpions have the opportunity to compete in the Pop Warner National Championships in Florida this December.

Food, snacks, beverages, and prize giveaways will be available on site. All funds raised directly support the Pakolea Pop Warner Football Program. For more information, contact Mike at 848-2521 or email info@palamasettlement.org.

The Pakolea program for youth, ages 7-17, uses a combination of socialization, academic, life skills and athletics to help youth set short and long-term plans that lead them to becoming productive adults. Participants spend time on homework and other educational activities as part of the program, as well as playing team sports such as Pop Warner football and basketball in the Police Activity League (PAL). In partnership with Na Koa Football Booster Club, special outings to the University of Hawaii athletic facilities and opportunities to meet UH athletes are provided.

About Palama Settlement
Prior to incorporation, a settlement was formed to house homeless and sick following the 1900 Honolulu Chinatown fire set by the Honolulu Fire Department to quell the outbreak of the Bubonic Plague. The fire grew out of control leaving over 4,000 residents homeless. Seeing the need to assist the many sick and homeless, as well as the waves of new immigrants arriving to the Islands, Palama Settlement emerged in as a social service agency.

The Settlement pioneered the development of many innovative programs to address the ever changing needs of the Kalihi and Palama community and residents. As it was a century ago, Palama Settlement continues to meet the challenges of an ever increasing population from the Pacific basin mixing into the ethnic blend of the old community. Palama Settlements’ campus and facilities located at 810 N. Vineyard Blvd. provide the community’s low income and large families with a safe and nurturing environment where children, adults and families are able to engage in educational, recreational, physical, cultural programs, services and activities to enhance their well-being.

Mission
To provide facilities, services and programs to support, improve and positively enhance the cultural, social, educational, physical and emotional well being of the individuals, families, and communities surrounding Palama Settlement.
