The San Diego Chinese Historical Museum is pleased to present a new exhibit, Paintings by Chia-Shang Cheng: Millet of Taiwan 台灣米勒陳甲上鄉土畫展.
Mr. Chen is a watercolor artist whose work is widely renowned in Taiwan and East Asia. His paintings of the Taiwanese countryside provide a unique opportunity for San Diego’s diverse community to become acquainted with the rural landscapes and farmers’ lives of Taiwan. His realistic portrayal of these pastoral themes has inspired comparisons with the 19th century French painter, Jean-François Millet.
Mr. Chen’s work has been exhibited throughout the Far East and has received many awards and accolades. In 2004, he was elected as the chair of the Asian Watercolor Union 亞細亞水彩畫聯盟, becoming the first Taiwanese leader of this international art society.
The exhibit will be on display until August 31, 2011. Admission is $2 and free for members and children under 12.
The San Diego Chinese Historical Museum is located at 404 Third Avenue in downtown San Diego. For more information, please visit our website at www.sdchm.org.
