The greatest players currently in the game of Platform Tennis will be heading to historic Richmond, Virginia, this October 15th-17th for the 2010 Premier Cup. In its 6th year, this event showcases the top 8 teams from all over the country and will be making its first ever trip to the south converging on The Country Club of Virginia.
The Premier Cup is the only money tournament annually held in the sport and helps kick off the Platform season nationally each year. This year’s total purse will be between $6,000-$7,000. Andy Todd, a nationally ranked Platform player and local organizer has teamed up with sponsors Premier Platform Tennis, the American Platform Tennis Association (APTA) www.platformtennis.org , and Wilson Racquet Sports along with Tournament Director Jason Gray to organize what will quite possibly be the biggest and best showcase of talent and organization the event has ever seen. Local spectators will be treated to three days of incredible display of teaching and playing skills unmatched anywhere in the country.
New this year to the weekend of events will be an exciting Friday night sponsored by the APTA that will feature an exhibition along w/ an overview of the game and opportunities to learn more about the game and meet some of the high profile players that will be participating in the actual event starting on Saturday. Saturday's play will consist of 2 groups of 4 playing within their own group in a round robin format in which each team will play 3 matches w/ the top 2 teams from each group advancing to Sunday's semi-finals. All activities will take place @ the Platform courts at the Country Club of Virginia. Come experience the "Rage in the Cage."
