!!!A FREE COMMUNITY AND FAMILY EVENT!!!
The inaugural Paddington Fair, a drug and alcohol free community event, arrives at Neal Macrossan Park (opp. Suncorp Stadium) on Saturday March 29. Catering for the entire family, Paddington Fair will see local residents, business, school and community programs come together to celebrate the wider Paddington community.
The full-day event will take place in the luscious surrounds of Neal Macrossan Park (incorporating Ithaca Swimming Pool, Paddington Skate Park, and Tennis Courts). Music, markets, and a host of activities for kids and the whole family will transform the area into a vibrant celebration of the local community.
Born out of the Brisbane City Councils LOCALe Music For Ya Park events, which have drawn thousands of families to local parks and facilities over the last two years, the new Paddington Fair will also follow in the tradition of the original and not-forgotten Paddington Street Festival, as a fun and safe celebration of our local talent and dynamic mix of demographics and cultures.
Whats On?
A host of free activities for kids, teens, parents, and grandparents alike will take place across the day. Two stages, markets, skate lessons and demos, a mystics tent, temporary tattoos, face painting, jumping castles, + heaps of other surprises to keep the entire family entertained. Ithaca Pool will be opening their doors with FREE entry from 12pm, providing a luxurious escape from the afternoon sun. Beginner Skate Lessons will be taking place throughout the morning, to be followed by an extreme Skate demonstration, showcasing some of the local areas best talent. Plus the Main Park Stage will be hosted by comedic talent Steve Allison, who has been brought on by Paddingtons own Sit Down Comedy Club.
+ STAR - Super Talented Amateur Ring-In: a large focus of Paddington Fair is to encourage local businesses to engage with the community on a non commercial level. As such, a plethora of local businesses have volunteered to perform skits, songs, comedy routines and anything else vaguely variety show styled on the main stage. Stay tuned for details.
Live Music
Screamfeeder Brisbane luminaries Screamfeeder will be playing their first Brisbane show in three years when they headline the Paddington Fair. With six studio albums and countless shows in Australia, as well as tours to Japan, Europe, and the USA under their belt, the local trio hold an iconic place in Australian music, and an active place in the Paddington community.
Ranger Featuring Adele Pickvance (The Go-Betweens), Martin Lee (Regurgitator) and Cameron McKenzie (stand-in gun guitarist on two recent Powderfinger tours) are a local band steeped in history, yet a fresh face on the Brisbane live scene. With several packed shows at Brisbanes Powerhouse, including two live to ABC radio, Ranger are an exciting aditition to the Paddington Fair line-up.
Texas Tea The Alt. Country stylings of duo Kate Jacobson and Benjamin P. Dougherty have melted the hearts of Brisbane audiences, their track Whiskey and Wine coming in at number 1 in 4ZzZfm annual hottest 100. Signed to local label Merenoise, their debut album Take A Sip continues to earn accolades from punters and critics alike, with the band set to take their music to the world with a European tour in May.
Little Vegas and the Fuzz Parade A group of cousins and brothers ranging in age from 17 28, LVatFP have been packing out The Zoo and The Troubadour with power pop rock. Fronted by the banshee styled female vocals of Sabrina Lawrie, the local five-piece have become a regular part of Brisbanes vibrant live scene.
+ performances from local emerging talents Meaningless Existence, The Grove and Sunflower.
What Else?
The Harmony House Psychic Tea Rooms are running a Mystics Tent where a group of local psychics will be on hand to offer predictions into the future.
Flipside Circus Workshop: try your hand at stilt walking, roller balancing and much more.
A Dunkem Machine, where you will get the opportunity to dunk local personalities including MP Andrew Fraser, all in the name of charity.
+ heaps, HEAPS more! Its going to be huge!
I encourage everyone who calls Paddington home to get out and get behind this inaugural and important cultural event for the area. It will be the full eclectic mix everything from roller derby girls, to live bands, to country and western singers, to rides for the kids which I believe reflects the diverse and vibrant and unique character that is the Paddington area. Its also a non-commercial venture and, in keeping with the family theme, will be alcohol-free.
Id also encourage everyone to come along and watch me make a goose of myself. Ive put my hand up to be dunked for charity and the money raised will fund on-going Paddington Fairs. The more people who come and throw a tennis ball at me, the more money is raised and that will all go toward making this event a success in the years to come.
