Oxford Geek Nights offer a chance for web developers and designers in the local area to get together, share their skills and talk about new ideas, techniques and technologies.
Each OGN consists of two keynote talks of 15 minutes each. There are also frenetic bursts of socialising, sometimes adverts for other local groups, but always interspersed with two sets of 5-minute-long microslot sessions.
= Keynotes =
Keynote speakers are invited to talk at Oxford Geek Nights. OGN18 will feature:
* PhysiViz: what we've learned from printing the internet out and making it into stuff, by Russell M Davies, organizer of interesting2007 and 2008, writer for Wired and Speechification contributor
= Microslots =
These are five-minute "lightning" talks that anyone can volunteer for. They're easy to do: pick something that excites you, or a project you've worked on that you think might be of interest; then talk to a friendly audience for just five minutes with a handful of slides.
Our scheduled microslots for OGN18 are:
* Designing Backwards, by Wes West
* What the Dickens? - mining the 19th century web, by Iain Emsley
* What happened to linked data, by Igor Goldkind
* A, T, C, G and You: an introduction to the new genomics, by Matt Wood
* CSS Filters, by Jon Hicks
* #fridaymix, by James Turnbull
Want to volunteer for a microslot at OGN 19 some time in September? They're easy to do: pick something that excites you, or a project you've worked on that you think might be of interest; then talk to a friendly audience for just five minutes with a handful of slides. Submit your microslot and we'll see you on the night!

= The Pitch =
The Pitch is our open-mic 60-second slot, where you can make commercial announcements, advertise services or vacancies, say hello or mention a local event or meeting.
You can book Pitch slots on the night, but space is limited so contact me via jp.stacey at GMail or @jpstacey on Twitter.
(The Oxford Geek Nights are FREE events, thanks to our regular sponsor Torchbox.)
