Waterfront
Valletta, Malta Xlokk

Owen Jay has been DJing for 14 years and is an integral part of the deep house scene in Malta. He has always delivered an alternative sound and even though his sets might be very versatile, his main focus is on Deepness. He used to form part of the Sonic Mecca, Unity Network & House of Misfits organizations and was also responsible for an endless number of other events featuring foreign guest DJs. Owen Jay has been a great influence on other Djs and his specific style of house music has gained popularity throughout the years. On a weekly basis he is found djing at different bars, clubs and events on the island and also runs a radio show 'Beat of Soul' on XFM. Abroad, he has performed in numerous countries including the legendary Tresor Club in Berlin & Supperclub in Amsterdam to name a few.

Owen Jay's style of house music finds its roots in Chicago & Detroit and features elements of Jazz & Soul. On several occasions Owen has performed alongside live musicians and in studio he has collaborated with several local artists from different scenes in order to combine his deep house to jazzy & tribal elements.

Owen Jay's performance at Q- Bar will feature different styles of house music ranging from minimal German grooves to jazzy Chicago rhythms to Detroit tech-house. However, the performance will also feature live musicians, who like Owen Jay will be using this event as a platform to display their art. Dr. Zicotron from the band Spooky Monkey will be playing the jazzy keys whilst Darko, a Serbian percussionist from the band No Snow No Alps, will be progressing the night with his tribal rhythms. Further complementing the night will be Abba aka The Missing Link, Claire Tonna from the band Particle Blue and the lovely and multi-talented performer, Annabelle Galea. This combination of live musicians performing alongside the DJ is highly sought after because the musicians will adapt their performance to the crowd creating a continuous progression. Giulivo, as the warm up DJ will set the mood for the night with his groovy tunes.

It has been over 8 years since Owen Jay performed a 5 hour set on this scale. On 2 turntables and 2 cdjs, he intends to reach out and educate the crowd with his house music religion, mixing classic house from the 90's with more recent as well as unreleased tracks. And the venue chosen for this event is Qbar, one of Malta's latest hip lounge bars that entices people from different generations to sample some of the finer things in life. The date set for this event is on the 12th of April… and did I forget to mention the free entrance? Surely an event not to be missed!!
