Linford Detweiler and Karin Bergquist, the Cincinnati-based couple who are the core of Over the Rhine, are about to release The Trumpet Child, another outstanding collection of burnished and heartfelt new songs. Alt-country accents again figure prominently in their polished song craft, and Bergquist’s exquisite, jazz-tinged vocals continue to captivate listeners. As All Music Guide put it, “She has always been subtle, but she manages to underscore the maximum emotional intent by relying on nuance…she leaves unnecessary weight outside the song’s frame.” Griffin House, a singer-songwriter on the Nettwerk label who also lives in Cincy, opens the show.
