Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Former SF Poet Laureate kicks off the San Francisco International Poetry festival with an outdoor evening reading in Jack Kerouac Alley in the heart of the beat country in North Beach. The festival (which runs from July 27-29) will showcase 15 poets from around the world, reading together with poets from San Francisco’s own literary community.
This truly international group of poets represents a wide spectrum in the world of poetry, from recognized masters to emerging new talents, who are redefining the art in our evolving times.
Lawrence Ferlinghetti (born Lawrence Ferling on March 24, 1919) is a poet and is also the co-owner of the City Lights Bookstore and publishing house; the store and publishing company that published early literary works of the Beat generation, and helped to launch the careers of Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg.

There are also some other events associated with the poetry festival; I've been adding all of them to the San Francisco Bay Area Poetry group.
