KIDS: GET A PASSPORT AND TRAVEL THE OUTDOORS AT
CLEVELAND METROPARKS OUTDOOR ODYSSEY
Kids can pick up a “passport” and travel recreation discoveries at the free, annual Cleveland Metroparks “Outdoor Odyssey” event along the Ohio & Erie Canal in Ohio & Erie Canal Reservation in Cuyahoga Heights.
Young visitors can experience the great outdoors with a variety of fun activities, including fishing, golf putting and chipping, outdoor skills and demonstrations, nature crafts, and more!
Basic fishing skills and techniques will be taught along the canal. Children can learn what types of bait the fish enjoy and how to bait their hook properly. After reeling in the “big one,” Cleveland Metroparks staff and volunteers will help identify and explain the species of fish. Live bait and loaner fishing equipment will be available.
A variety of nature and environmental organizations will be on hand with activities and displays to enjoy, too. And, live animal presentations by Lake Erie Nature & Science Center.
Children can pick up an Outdoor Odyssey “passport” for their journey. As the children complete a station, they will receive a stamp in their passport. When they complete at least five of the stations, they may redeem their passport for a prize!
Youth Outdoors, a partnership between Cleveland Metroparks, 4-H, the City of Cleveland, and The Ohio State University Extension, makes a difference in the lives of urban youth, ages 8 to 18, in outdoor recreation and environmental education programs - by experiencing nature, developing outdoor recreation skills, gaining a life-long appreciation and understanding of natural resources, and learning valuable life skills in achieving goals.
