Part one of three, classes on November 2nd, 9th and 16th. We will shed light on American perceptions of China, paying special attention to the social construction and ethical reasoning behind the positive and negative perceptions regarding China that are found among people in the United States—including the views toward China held by foreign policy leaders in the U.S. This approach is designed to enhance our constructive self-critical understanding of the relationship between perceptions we have of a foreign country and the policies and attitudes we adopt. Insights we gain from this focus on the U.S. and China can be helpful as we think about our perceptions of other nations.
