Our 35th Anniversary Benefit and Awards Gala! October 5, 2012

On October 5, 2012, the Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts will celebrate 35 years of service to the San Francisco Latino Arts community with a benefit and awards gala. MCCLA will honor the exemplary contributions of Latino artists, performers and volunteers.

Special honors will go to the following 2012 Awardees:

Alejandro Murguia - Poetry & Literature
Ester Hernandez - Visual Arts
Zenon Barron - Dance
Metzi Henriquez & Jose Rivera - Fogo Na Roupa - Performing Arts
Mission Dist. Young Musicians Program - Community Music Center - Music
Isabel Barraza & Alfonso Ochoa - Volunteers

Featuring artistic performances by: Zambra Flamenca (Kerensa DeMars), Mala Junta Tango ensemble (Nora Dinzelbacher), Afoutayi Haitian Dance (Djenane St. Juste), and Alejandro Murguia, San Francisco's 2012 Poet Laureate. Guest appearances by: Peter Bratt (La Mission Film), and Tom D-Caigny, SF Arts Commission Cultural Affairs Director and District 9 Supervisor David Campos.

The Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts was established in 1977 by artists and community activists with a shared vision to promote, preserve and develop the Latino cultural arts. These arts reflect the living traditions and experiences of the diverse communities that exist within the Latino population.

As a multidiscilinary, multicultural arts institution, MCCLA provides an arena to develop new artistic skills as well as support existing local and established artists. Ongoing MCCLA programming includes over 8 art exhibits yearly, film and literary events, and the celebration of a cultural calendar that includes events such as Corazon del Barrio, Carnaval SF, LatinAmerican month, Dia de los Muertos and our highly recognized Mole Contest.
