Charanga is a specific style of instrumentation consisting of contrabass, timbales, and guiro, strings (from two to four violins, or any number of violins with a cello), and one flute, (the piano and congas were integrated in the 40s). Since 1997, Fay Robert's Charangoa, based out of Los Angeles, has been keeping the flame of traditional Charanga alive.
