"The four extremely virtuosic and accomplished players of The Orion Quartet seem to have been born to be together." (Los Angeles times)

Returning to PCMS on Tuesday, November 18 at 8PM, The Orion Quartet's members, Daniel Phillips/violin, Todd Phillips/violin, Steven Tenenbom/viola, and Timothy Eddy/cello, will bring to the stage the fresh perspective and individuality for which they have so often been praised. The Quartet chose its name from the Orion constellation, drawing on each member's unique qualities to create what has been referred to as their "persuasive power" (The New York Times). The program, taking place at the Independence Seaport Museum, consists of music by an early Hadyn string quartet, the Philadelphia premiere of Lowell Liebermann's String Quartet No. 4, and Dvorak's String Sextet in A Major a work in the Czech style, but influenced greatly by Schubert.

Joining the Orion Quartet are violist Kim Kashkashian and cellist Marcy Rosen. Kashkashian, hailed as "an artist who combines a probing, restless musical intellect with enormous beauty of tone" (The San Francisco Chronicle), has extensively enlarged the repertoire for solo viola through work with such composers as Gubaidulina, Penderecki, and Kancheli, among others. Rosen, has been praised by the New York Times as an artist of "passionate authority," known for her work as a founding member of the world renowned Mendelssohn String Quartet.
