While it’s always a joy to hear a contemporary rock band with a 60s and 70s-era rock influence, we jump even higher at StageOne when we hear the early funk shining through. Such is the case with Los Angeles’ Orgone. Starting off as an on-again off-again backup band for hip-hop acts, this soulful and tight group of friends made it official in 1999 when they named and formed Orgone. Deeply rooted in the funkiest old-school R&B, their rhythms are inspired by present-day DJs and they share a lucid freedom with the conscious hip-hop movement. You can’t generalize their sound and they’re always growing and learning from each other as musicians. Come out to StageOne to witness pure musical innovation at its best. According to their site, they are “many souls with a cosmic connection, a natural creative force and musicians who have played together for years. They are self schooled and continue to shape their musical voice as a solid unit of guys who hang, spin records and jam out their shared inspirations.”
