!t's Friday & you still have no weekend plans!? Take BART & the Muni Historic F-Line streetcars to Pier 45 on The Embarcadero (foot of Taylor St.) and visit the SS Jeremiah O'Brien, the only surviving US Liberty Ship on the west coast. The entire ship is open for your touring, including the engine room where the boilers and the 2500 HP steam engine will be operating. You stand practically inside the engine, only a couple feet from the crankshaft and piston rods. Examine the life of merchant mariners by touring accommodations from the Captain's suite to officers cabins to six-man bunk quarters for sailors. The galley still uses its coal-fired stove. Onboard docents can answer all your questions. AND, she still sails, offering cruises monthly during the summer. Next cruise is Fleet Week with the Blue Angels airshow, Oct 10 & 11.
