"THE SORCERER" GOES BOLLYWOOD!
Lyric Theatre of San Jose gives Gilbert and Sullivan's "The Sorcerer" a Bollywood Makeover by marrying beautifully sung comic opera with the excitement of Bollywood dancing at the Montgomery Theatre in their upcoming production of Gilbert and Sullivan's The Sorcerer.
One of Gilbert and Sullivan's earliest operettas, "The Sorcerer" tells the tale of a young couple who want everyone to be as happily mated as they are, but inadvertently set off ridiculous pairings of townspeople through the misuse of John Wellington Wells' magic tea potion. Although the setting has shifted to Colonial India, the story and the music remain the same.
Ishika Seth of Mona Khan Dance Company rejoins stage director David Euresti as choreographer. They are joined by vocal and music director, Aaron Schultz.
Performance dates are June 18, 23, 24 and 25 at 8 p.m., with matinee performances on June 19 and 26 at 2 p.m. All performances will be held in the Montgomery Theatre on Market and San Carlos in Downtown San Jose. Tickets are $36 for adults; $32 for students and seniors, with Bargain seats at $25 and students under 17 at $10. Discounts are also available for groups of 10 or more. Tickets can be purchased in advance at www.lyrictheatre.org or by calling 408-986-1455.
