OPENSOUND EXPERIMENTAL MUSIC SERIES $7 admission OPENSOUND continues their monthly series here at Third Life Studio (and their collaboration with the Somerville Arts Council); this evening performance features musicians from far and wide, on tour before their appearance at the annual High Zero Festival for free improvisation in Baltimore, Maryland.
EKG is the duo of San Francisco’s Kyle Bruckmann and Berlin’s Ernst Karel. Their music is situated between acoustic and electronic, improvised and premeditated, disruptive and meditative; it crackles and hums with precariously restrained potential energy. Combining traditional and extended wind techniques with anachronistic (non-digital) electronic processing, they carefully sculpt a bizarre yet organic soundworld of shifting tones, sudden and creeping textures, elusive suggestions of possible melody, and microscopic noise.
Using the cello, voice and analog electronics, Baltimore’s Audrey Chen’s work focuses on the combination and layering of traditional and extended techniques. Her performance work incorporates sound, movement and simple visual/sculptural concepts. Chen has performed in Europe, Russia, Australia, New Zealand, China, Japan, Taiwan and the USA.
Composer, sound artist and saxophonist Alessandro Bosetti's work explores the relationship between sound anthropology and composition, focusing on the musicality of spoken words and aspects of spoken communication. Field research and interviews often create the basis for his abstract compositions. As a saxophonist, he has developed an original instrumental language that incorporates extended techniques and noises, and is strongly influenced by electronic music. Bosetti has performed all over Europe, the US and Japan. He lives and works in Berlin.
